Training Funk with a Winner!

So, I haven't posted in about a week...partically because I have skipped a few runs and am ashamed!!!:(
I did two 5 mile runs last week, and then we left on vacation to the Lake of the Ozarks, and I was suppose to get my two other runs in...and I didn't!
So far this week I did Body Combat last night, but still no running....so, I have to kick my butt in gear and get some runs in before our 18 mile run this weekend.
I think I am in the "burn-out" stage of marathon training...I know I need to push through it, but I sooo miss just being able to go to the gym and do my workout classes, and maybe get in a couple 3-5 mile runs.  Nope, I HAVE to get in 4 runs a week with one being a super long one...oh marathon training...why do you torment me so!?!?!
I am still excited about the Chicago marathon coming up, but I am too also doubting myself more and more.  I know I can finish it, but I'm not sure I have the same desire I had week 1...where I was going to run the whole thing...with my friends!  Now I think because I have had to walk some of my longer runs, it has gotten me down and now all I can picture is being lost in a sea of people on race day mentally and physically pushing myself through 26.2 long miles....ALL.BY.MYSELF!  Kinda depressing...dontcha think???
I know I will come out of this funk....I am going to try to incorporate some more cross-training into my weeks...I hope this helps break up the running, and on occasion, I might even replace a running day with cross-training...I have to do something to make sure I get motivated again to complete this sucker!!!
Does anyone else ever fall into the "training funk"?  What do you do to overcome it?

I definitely have my fair share of running funks - I usually go out and buy something running related to motivate me to get out there and run. Good Luck on Chicago!

Agree with Sherry. Sometimes a new running gizmo, simple or complex, helps rev up the interest again. Can be as simple as a new pair of socks. Just something new to shake the routine a bit.

I definitely have running funks.

I was really worried about my first marathon, because I didn't have a friend running with me. But in reality, I was running with thousands of other runners! And there were tons of people there to cheer on strangers.

Training for a marathon is tough, and there's definitely some burnout/rough weeks. Just remember, when you're at that start line, you won't regret the workouts you did, only the workouts you didn't do!

yah, currently dealing with a training funk at the moment. I'm just not as fast as I wanna be, and it's hard to see the numbers after my runs.

but, i try to keep saying...it's all a process right?

congrats to the giveaway winner;-)

Yea, i'm curious as to what the first word was too! I get in beginner funks. Buying something pretty to wear does help a lot. Switching to triathlons has been the biggest help bc I am lovin the bike. Hard work but in a different way. I recommend it for some cross training, it can really help your running too! Plus you may become a tri or duathlon convert!

You will make it though this phase - it is tough, but you got it.

I will be at Chicago, so maybe we can meet up :)

I've been in a funk about working out all weekend also, why is it so easy for us to get discouraged and ashamed so easily?? Let's hope today is a better day. :)

Thanks for the prize!! That totally brightened up my day!
